Washtenaw County Backup Dispatch Center

During the May 2023 Project Oversite Committee board meeting, members gave approval for a new backup center for all dispatch centers in Washtenaw County.  This will provide a alternative location for one or more dispatch centers to relocate to in the case of a natural disaster, or any other emergency situation requiring a center to be abandoned.  The backup center will be equipped with redundant 911 telephony and radio equipment, which will allow dispatchers to be able to receive 911 calls and dispatch units in the field to calls for service.  The backup center can also be used for training dispatchers on 911 and radio equipment to increase competency.  Mock disaster drills can also be practiced at the facility to increase dispatchers’ ability to address emergency situations.

Construction of the backup center has been completed, along with the 911 equipment installation.  The radio equipment is in ordering process, with installation scheduled for sometime in 2024.  It is hoped that the backup center will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2024.
